Stephenson, James
soldier, state legislator, congressman, was born March 20, 1764, in Gettysburg, Pa. He commanded a company in the campaign of General St. Clair; was present at the quelling of the whisky insurrection in Pennsylvania, and was promoted to the office of brigade inspector. He served for many years as a delegate to the Virginia assembly; and was a representative in congress from Virginia from 1803 to 1805, from 1809 to 1811, and again from 1822 to 1825. He died in August, 1833.
