Stearns, John William

educator, author, was born in 1840 in Sturbridge , Mass. He is a professor in the university of Wisconsin from 1884, and the author of The History of Education in Wisconsin.

JONATHAN STEARNS, FRENCH, clergyman, author, was born in September, 1808, in Bedford, Mass. In 1849 he became pastor of the First Presbyterian church in Newark, N. J., which connection continued about thirty years. He published Sermon on the Death of Danof Daniel Webster; and Historical Discourses Relating to the First Presbyterian Church in Newark.
