Stanley, Edward
lawyer, congressman, was born about 1811 in New Berne, N. C. He served three years in the house of commons of North Carolina, and was speaker of that body. He was a representative from North Carolina to the twenty-fifth, twenty-sixth, twenty-seventh, thirtieth, thirty-first and thirtysecond congresses. He moved to California, where he devoted himself to the practice of law, and was recalled from there by President Lincoln in 1862 to assume the duties of military governor of North Carolina. He died July 12, 1872, in San Francisco, Cal. Medical ical society; president of the Missouri Eclectic Medical society; vice-president of the state board of health of Missouri, and is a member of the leading medical societies.
