Smoot, Martha Adaline
educator, littérateur, was born Dec. 28, 1829, in Buckholts, Liberty county, Miss. She received her education at the Monticello seminary, Illinois, and in Mobile, Ala.
For many years she was principal of literary and musical schools in Galveston and Bryan, Texas. In 1892-93 she was chairman of the Texas advisory music committee for the world's fair. She is now a widow, and her son is president of the National bank of Colorado, Texas.
She has contributed extensively to current literature.
