Smith, Thomas (Lawyer jurist congressman)

lawyer, jurist, congressman, was born in 1745 in Scotland. In 1769 he was appointed deputy-surveyor, and settled in Bedford, Pa. He was colonel of militia during the revolution; and was a member of the constitutional convention in 1776. He was a member of the state legislature; was a delegate to the continental congress from 1780 to 1782; and was president judge from 1791 to 1794.

He was a judge of the superior court of Pennsylvania from 1794 to 1809. He died June 16, 1809, in Philadelphia, Pa.
