Smith, Samuel Emerson

H. In 1812 he settled in Wiscasset, Maine; was representative in the legislature in 1819 and 1820; and was chief justice of the court of common pleas of Maine in 1821. He was justice of the state court of common pleas from 1822 to 1830; was governor of Maine from 1831 to 1834; and was again judge of the court of common pleas from 1835 to 1837. the latter year he was a commissioner to revise the public statutes of Maine. died March 4, 1860, in Wiscasset, Maine.
