Smith, Joseph
founder of a religious sect, was born Nov. 6, 1832, in Kirkland, Ohio. After the death of his father in 1844 he remained in Nauvoo with his mother, who would not acknowledge the authority of Brigham Young. He went abroad and preached frequently for about fifteen years, and then removed to Lamoni, Iowa, the acknowledged head of the reorganized church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, a strong opponent to the doctrine and practices of the polygamists of Utah. SMITH, JOSEPH EDWARD ADAMS, -Godfrey Greylock-author, was born in 1822.
He was a writer of Pittsfield, Mass., and the author of Taghconic, the Romance and Beauty of the Hills; and A History of Paper.
