Smith, Andrew Jackson

soldier, was born April 28, 1815, in Bucks county, Pa. In 1838 he graduated from West Point; served with distinction in the Mexican and civil wars; and attained the brevet of major-general in the United States army.

SMITH, ANDREW ROBINSON GID- DINGE, physician, surgeon, state senator, was born in May, 1841, in Bridgton, Maine.

He entered military service as hospital steward; was promoted assistant surgeon; and has since been United States examining surgeon in Whitefield, Maine. He has represented his town in the state legislature; and his district in the state senate for two sessions.
