Slocum, Henry Warner

soldier, lawyer, state legislator, congressman, was born Sept. 24, 1827, in New York. In 1859 he was elected to the state legislature; and from 1859 to 1861 was instructor of artillery in the New York militia. When the rebellion broke out he was chosen colonel of the twenty-seventh regiment of New York volunteers: and before the close of 1861 was made brigadier-general of volunteers. In 1862 he was appointed a major-general. In 1868 he was chosen a presidential elector. He was elected a representative from New York to the forty-first and forty-second congresses; and was also elected to the fortyeighth congress.
