Shaw, Henry (Lawyer state legislator)

lawyer, state legislator, congressman, was born in 1788 in Windham county, Vt. He was nominated for congress before he was eligible, and in 1816 was elected a representative from Massachusetts to the sixteenth congress.

He was a member of the Massachusetts legislature for eighteen years, and was also a member of the governor's council.

In 1848 he moved to New York, and resided at Fort Washington, on the Hudson. He was a member of the board of education in New York city, and two years in the common council, and in 1853 was elected a member of the New York assembly. He died Oct. 17, 1857, in Peekskill, N. Y.
