Sedgwick, Theodore
lawyer, jurist, congressman, United States senator, was born in 1746, in Hartford, Conn. He was a zealous patriot in the revolutionary war; was a member of the provincial congress in 1785 and 1786; and was a representative in congress from Massachusetts, after the adoption of the constitution, from 1789 to 1796. He was a senator of the United States from 1796 to 1798. In 1799 he was again a member of the house, and was chosen speaker. From 1802 until his death he was a judge of the supreme court of Massachusetts. He died Jan. 24, 1813, in Boston, Mass.
