Scales, Alfred Moore

JR., lawyer, state legislator, congressman, governor, was born Nov. 26, 1827, in Reedsville, N. C. He was elected to the legislature of North Carolina in 1852 and 1856; and in 1857 was elected a representative from his native state to the thirty-fifth congress. He was a presidential elector in 1861; and was elected to the forty-fourth congress. He was re-elected to the fortyfifth, forty-sixth, forty-seventh, and fortyeighth congresses. In 1884 he was elected governor of North Carolina for four years.
