educator, author, was born in 1771 in France. He was instructor at Harvard in French and Spanish from 1816 till 1839, and afterward in Spanish alone till the year of his death.
He edited and enlarged Augustin E.
Josse's Grammar of the Spanish Language; and published critical and annotated editions of the Spanish dramatists, Don Quixote, and other Spanish classics, the Fables of Fontaine, with notes, and treatises on the French and Spanish languages. He died Feb. 16, 1854, in Cambridge, Mass. SALISBURY, EDWARD ELBRIDGE, philologist, educator, author, was born April 6, 1814, in Boston, Mass. He is a philologist of distinction, professor of Arabic at Yale university in 1841-56; and the author of General and Biographical Monographs.
