poet, was born Sept. 22, 1840, in Franklin county, Mo. She has written both prose and verse for the periodical press; and her poems appear in Poets of America, Woman in Sacred Song, and other standard works.
ROGERS, NATHANIEL PEABODY, journalist, author, was born June 3, 1794, in Portsmouth, N. H. He established at Concord, N. H., the Herald of Freedom in 1838, one of the pioneer anti-slavery papers in the United States. He wrote for the New York Tribune over the signature The Old Man of the Mountains. He died Oct. 18, 1846, in Concord, N. H.
