Ramsey, Alexander
congressman, governor, United States senator, was born Sept. 8, 1815, in Harrisburg, Pa. He was a representative in congress from Pennsylvania from 1843 to 1847. In 1849 he was appointed the first territorial governor of Minnesota. In 1855 he was mayor of the city of St. Paul, Minn.; and was elected governor of the state of Minnesota in 1858, and served until 1862. In 1863 he was elected a senator in congress from Minnesota, for the term ending in 1869, and was re-elected for the term ending in 1875.
