Orth, Godlove Stoner

lawyer, state senator, congressman, was born April 22, 1817, near Lebanon, Pa. In 1843 and 1846 he was elected to the Indiana state senate, serving six years in all, one year as president of that body. He was a presidential elector in 1848, and was a member of the peace congress of 1861.

In 1862 he was elected a representative from Indiana to the thirty-eighth congress. He was re-elected to the thirtyninth, fortieth, forty-first and forty-third congresses. In 1875 he was appointed minister to Austria. He was again elected to congress as a representative from Indiana to the forty-sixth and forty-seventh congresses. He died Dec. 16, 1882, in Lafayette, Ind.
