Norwood, Thomas Manson

lawyer, United States senator, congressman, was born April 26, 1830, in Talbot county, Ga. He studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1852. He moved to Savannah in 1852; and was a member of the Georgia legislature in 1861 and 1862. He presidential elector in 1868; and was elected to the United States senate in 1871 for the term was a ending in 1877, serving on the committees on pensions, transportation, land claims, and revolutionary claims. In 1884 he was elected a representative from Georgia to the forty-ninth congress; and was re-elected to the fiftieth congress as a democrat.
