Lynch, William Francis

soldier, author, was born in April, 1801, in Norfolk, Va. He was a naval officer of prominence as an explorer, and the author of Narrative of the United States Exploring Expedition to the River Jordan and the Dead Sea; and Naval Life, or Afloat and Ashore.

In addition to his published works, he contributed valuable articles on scientific and naval subjects to the leading newspapers and magazines of the United States. He died Oct. 17, 1865, in Baltimore, Md. $606
