Kent, Edward
lawyer, jurist, state legislator, governor, was born Jan. 8, 1802, in Concord, N. H. In 1827 he was appointed chief justice of the court of sessions for Penobscot county; and from 1829 to 1833 was a member of the Maine legislature.
He was governor of Maine from 1838 to 1840; and in 1843 was appointed by the legislature one of the commissioners for settling the Maine boundary line under the Ashburton treaty. In 1859 he was appointed associate judge of the supreme court of Maine. He died May 19, 1877, in Bangor, Maine.
