Houston, John
lawyer, jurist, governor, was born Aug. 31, 1744, in Waynesboro, Ga. He was a delegate to the continental congress from 1775 to 1777, and was a member of the first naval committee. He was a member of the state council in May, 1777; governor of Georgia from 1778 to 1784; and in 1787 was commissioner for settling the boundary between Georgia and South Carolina. In 1792 he was appointed first judge of the supreme court of Georgia. He died July 20, 1796, in Savannah.
