Hopkins, George W
educator, lawyer, jurist, congressman, was born Feb. 22, 1804, in Goochland county, Va. During 1833-34 he served in the house of delegates; was elected a representative in congress in 1835, and was re-elected until 1847, serving during one session as speaker of the house of representatives. In 1849 he went a second time into the house of delegates of Virginia, and was elected speaker of the house. He was subsequently elected a judge of the circuit court, and in 1857 was elected to the thirty-fifth congress. He died March 2, 1861.
