Holmes, Sidney T

civil engineer, lawyer, jurist, congressman, was born in August, 1815, in Schaghticoke, N. Y.

He was twice appointed loan commissioner for Madison county, in 1848 and 1850; and in 1851 was elected judge and surrogate for the same county, and re-elected in 1855 and 1859, serving until 1864. In 1864 he was elected a representative from New York to the thirty-ninth congress.

HOLMES, THEOPHILUS HUNTER, soldier, was born in 1804, in Sampson county, N. C. He was commissioned major in 1855, and was made a brigadiergeneral in the service of the state. He died June 21, 1880, in Fayetteville, N. C.
