Harrison, George P
soldier, lawyer, congressman, was born March 19, 1841, near Savannah, Ga. He entered the confederate army as second lieutenant of the first Georgia regulars, and was promoted to brigadiergeneral. He removed to Alabama in 1865; was elected commandant of cadets at university of Alabama, but declined; and was subsequently elected to the same position at the Agricultural and Mechanical college of Alabama, and served one year. He was a member of the constitutional convention of Alabama in 1875; was elected state senator in 1876; and re-elected in 1880. He was president of the state senate from 1882 to 1884; and was a delegate to the national democratic convention held in Chicago in 1892. He was elected to the fifty-third and fifty-fourth congresses as a democrat.
