Harris, William Torrey

educator, philosopher, journalist, author, was born Sept. 10, 1835, in North Killingly, Conn. He is a speculative philosopher and educator of Washington City, a translator of Hegel, and editor of The Journal of Speculative Philosophy. Since 1889 he has been United States commissioner of education. He is the author of The Spiritual Sense of Dante's Divina Commedia; Method of Study of Social Science; How to Teach Social Science; Hegel's Logic, a critical exposition; and Introduction to the Study of Philosophy.
