Harris, William A (Journalist congressman)

journalist, congressman, was born Aug. 8, 1805, in Fauquier county, Va. He was twice elected to the legislature of Virginia; and was a presidential elector in 1841. He was a representative in congress from Virginia from 1841 to 1843. In 1845 he was appointed by President Polk charge d'afaires to Buenos Ayres, where he remained until 1851. He became the editor and proprietor of the Washington Union, which continued in his possession until he was elected printer to the United States senate, which office he held for two years. He died March 28, 1864, in Pike county, Mo.
