merchant, governor, was born in Scotland. In 1692 he was appointed governor of New Jersey, and served for five years. He died April 20, 1703, in Burlington, N. J.
HAMILTON, ANDREW JACKSON, merchant, lawyer, jurist, congressman, governor, was born Jan. 28, 1815, in Madison county, Ala. He held the office of attorney-general; served frequently in the legislature; and in 1856 was a presidential elector. He was elected a representative from Texas to the thirty-sixth congress; and in 1862 was appointed military governor of Texas; and in 1865 provisional governor of the same state. He was a justice of the supreme court of the state. He died April 10, 1875, in Austin, Texas.
