Hadley, Hiram
educator, college president, author, was born March 17, 1833, in Clinton county, Ohio. He received his education at the Friends' academy, Friends' boarding school, Earlham college, and Haverford college. With the exception of ten years with the publishing house of Charles Scribner and Company, Prof. Hadley has been an active educator. He has served Wayne county, Ind., as a county examiner for several years; organized and conducted the first long Teachers' institute in Indiana; was active in developing Indiana's school system; and has been a pioneer in many good educational movements. He has been principal of several academies; for six years was president of the New Mexico college of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts; and since 1894 has been acting president of the university of New Mexico. He is the author of Hadley's Lessons in Language, and other works.
