Fowler, John Edgar
educator, lawyer, congressman, was born Sept. 8, 1866, in Sampson county, N. C. He read law at the university of North Carolina, and was admitted to the bar in 1894. He was formerly a free silver democrat, but upon the nomination of Mr. Cleveland in 1892, left the democratic and allied himself with the populist party. He was nominated for the state house of representatives the same year as a populist, but was defeated by seven votes. He was nominated as a populist for the state senate in 1894, and was elected. He was elected to the fiftyfifth congress as a populist.
