Fitzpatrick, Benjamin

lawyer, jurist, governor, United States senator, was born June 30, 1802, in Greene county, Ga. In 1841 he was elected governor of Alabama; and in 1843 was re-elected to the same position. In 1852 he was appointed a senator in congress to fill a vacancy; and in 1855 was elected to the same position for the term ending in 1861. He retired from the senate in 1861, and took part in the rebellion. He died in November, 1870, in Antonaga county, Ala.

FITZPATRICK, JOHN BERNARD, bishop, was born Nov. 1, 1812, in Boston, Mass. He erected one of the finest orphan asylums in America, a large reformatory, a hospital, and a college. He died Feb. 13, 1866, in Boston, Mass.
