Field, Benjamin Hazard

philanthropist, was born May 2, 1814, in Winchester county, N. Y. He was president in 1886 of the Historical society, an incorporator of the American museum of natural history, the Sheltering Arms, and the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children, and was president of the free circulating library and the eye and ear infirmary. He died March 17, 1893, in New York city.

FIELD, MRS. CAROLINE LESLIE WHITNEY, author, poet, was born in Massachusetts. She is a writer of Guilford, Conn., and the author of High Lights, a novel; The Unseen King, and Other Poems.
