Dodge, Theodore Ayrault
soldier, author, was born May 28, 1842, in Pittsfield, Mass. He is a captain and brevet lieutenant-colonel in the United States army, and prominent as a military historian. He is the author of The Campaign of Chancellorsville; A Bird's-Eye View of our Civil War; Great Captains; Alexander, a History of the Origin and Growth of the Art of War from the Earliest Times to the Battle of Ipsus, B. C. 301, with a detailed account of the Campaigns of the Great Macedonian; Hannibal; Cæsar; Gustavus Adolphus; Patroclus and Penelope, a Chat in the Saddle; and Riders of Many Lands.
