educator, lawyer, legislator, was born Jan. 28, 1854, in Union, N. Y. He was professor in New York state normal school. He was admitted to the bar in 1883 at Albany, N. Y., and during 1890-93 was a member of the New York state legislature.
DE YOUNG, MICHAEL HENRY, journalist, was born in 1848, in St. Louis, Mo. Since 1879 the San Francisco Chronicle has been conducted solely by M. H. De Young, who has made it the largest and probably the most prosperous west of St.
Louis. He has served several times on the republican national committee, and been prominently named for United States senator.
