Deberry, Edmund

congressman, was born Aug. 14, 1787, in Mount Gilead, N. C. In 1806 he was a member of the state legislature, and continued to serve there, with occasional intermissions, until 1628. He was a representative in congress from North Carolina from 1829 to 1831, from 1833 to 1845, and again from 1849 to 1851. He died Dec. 12, 1859, in Mount Gilead, N. C.

DE BLOIS, AUSTIN KENNEDY, educator, college president, was born Dec. 17, 1866, in Nova Scotia. He engaged in educational work, and in 1894 became president of Shurtliff college of Upper Alton, Ill.
