Daveis, Charles Stewart
soldier, lawyer, state senator, was born May 10, 1788, in Portland, Maine. In 1839 he was a candidate for the state senate and the following year was elected a member of that body. In 1848 he was a member of the national convention, which nominated General Taylor for the presidency. He wrote extensively for current publications, and on genealogical subjects; and was vice-president general of the Massachusetts Society of the Cincinnati. He died March 29, 1865, in his native town.
