Darling, Alfred B
was born March 23, 1821, in Burke, Vt. He is the senior proprietor of the Fifth Avenue hotel of New York city, for many years the most famous and successful of American houses. In 1852 he became associated with Mr. Stevens, as partner, in the management of the Battle house in Mobile, Ala., then one of the finest and most costly hotels in the south. He has served from time to time as director in important institutions, among them being the Second National bank, the Fifth Avenue Safe Deposit Co., and The Union Dime Savings bank, all of New York city.
