Cooney, James
lawyer, jurist, congressman, was born in 1848 in Ireland. He was educated in the public schools and at the state university of Missouri; taught school for a few years after he left the university, and in 1875 located in Marshall, Mo., and engaged in the practice of law. He was elected to the office of probate judge of his county; in 1882, and again in 1884, was elected prosecuting attorney of his county; and was elected to the fifty-fifth congress as a democrat.
