CONRAD, FREDERICK WILLIAM, clergyman, journalist, was born Jan. 3, 1816, in Orwigsburg, Pa. He received a thorough education, and graduated from the Mount Airy college of Germantown, Pa.; and subsequently from the Theological seminary of Gettysburg. He has been a successful pastor of Lutheran churches in Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Ohio; and for several years was professor of modern languages at the Wittenburg college of Springfield, Ohio. He is the editor of the Lutheran Observer of Philadelphia, Pa., and a trustee of the Lutheran Publication society. He is the author of The Lutheran Doctrine of Baptism; Analysis of Luther's Small Catechism; The Evangelical Lutheran Church ; The Call to the Ministry; and The Liturgical Question.
