Collins, Thomas Wharton

soldier, lawyer, jurist, author, was born June 23, 1812, in New Orleans, La. He was reporter and clerk of the state senate in 1834, then edited the True American.

He was district attorney for the Orleans district in 1840-42; judge of the city court in 1842-46, a member of the constitutional convention in 1852, and in 1856 was elected judge of the first district court of New Orleans. In 1867 he was made judge of the seventh district court. He was the author of a tragedy called The Martyr Patriots, which was successfully performed; also of Humanics; The Eden of Labor; and essays on sociology, ethics, and politics, published in periodicals. He died Nov. 3, 1879.
