Atkinson, Theodore
soldier, jurist, was born Dec. 20, 1697, in New Castle, N. H. He graduated at Harvard university in 1718; was secretary of the colony in 1741; chief justice in 1754, and major-general of militia in 1769, but the revolution deprived him of all these offices. He was a delegate to the congress at Albany in 1754, and was one of the committee that drew up the plan of Union for the defense of the colonies. He was for many years in the legislature and council; also held the office of clerk of the court of common pleas; was colonel of militia, and in active service during the French and Indian wars. He died Sept. 22, 1779. was
