Arnold, Samuel
business man, congressman, was born June 1, 1806, in Haddam, Conn. He received his education at Plainfield academy, in Connecticut, and Westfield academy, in Massachusetts; devoted the most of his life to agricultural pursuits, and to various interests of commerce. For many years he carried on one of the most extensive stone quarries in the union; was, for a number of years, president of the bank of East Haddam; served his native county in the legislature during the years 1839, 1842, 1844, and 1851; and was elected to the thirty-fifth congress. was ARNOLD, SAMUEL GREENE, born April 12, 1821, in Providence, R. I. In 1862 he was again elected lieutenant-governor of Rhode Island, and was soon afterwards chosen senator in congress to fill a vacancy. He was the author of a History of Rhode Island; and Life of Patrick Henry. He died Feb. 12, 1880, in Providence, R. I.
