Allen, Charles
state senator, congressman, jurist, was born on Aug. 9, 1797, in Worcester, Mass. He was a member of the state legislature in 1829, 1833, 1834, 1838, and 1840; a state senator in 1835, 1838, and 1839; and judge of the court of common pleas from 1842 to 1844.
He was a representative in congress from 1849 to 1853; chief justice of the superior court of Suffolk county from 1858 to 1859; and subsequently chief justice of the superior court of the state. He was a member of the state constitutional conventions of 1853 and 1859; a commissioner to negotiate the Webster treaty in 1842; and was a delegate to the peace congress of 1861. He died Aug. 6, 1869, in Worcester.
